Personal History With Gaming

When I was three or four years old, I received my very first experience with video games and RPGs at my baby sitter's house with a dusty PS2. They plopped me down in the middle of the couch and handed me a controller while they were on the phone. The game in the Playstation? Final Fantasy X. At the time, I didn't know how to read, yet I was so intrigued. To see all the magic and numbers on screen as I controlled it, I was enthralled under both definitions of the word! Unfortunately, I was quickly discarded from the controller after my babysitter finished her call, but that wouldn't kill my fascination with RPGs.

Eventually when I was around five years old, I received a Gameboy Advanced for Christmas along with Pokémon Ruby and Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (Which both happened to be RPGs). At times, I would end up really frustrated because I would get stuck due to not catching dialogue (Still not being able to read), but thanks to this, I learned how to read faster than anyone else in my Kindergarten class along with math. It honestly really helped me out with school drastically.

After awhile of collecting all sorts of games and systems, playing them with friends, and browsing the internet, I discovered emulators in grade 2. At the time, I was considering buying an SNES and Earthbound just to be able to have the chance to play it, but emulators opened up a spectrum of possibilities gaming wise. I was able to play N64 games my friends dreamed of owning, SNES games no one in my school had ever heard of, and Gameboy games I had lost years ago! I know it's pretty common nowadays to be using emulators (Even on your phones now!), but at the time, I truly felt like a king.

Zooming off into the future, I'm still currently a Jack of all trades gaming wise. I still play old games on my GBA, and I even have Final Fantasy X now on the PS3 and the original PS2! However, I like sticking to indie games as of late now because I love seeing how they progress in the gaming industry. Stuff like Cave Story, Wings of Vi, Dust an Elysian Tale, and Armello, I just absolutely adore! Regardless of everything though, RPGs still have a close spot in my heart and always will. To escape reality into a realm of fantasy and magic, getting indulged into the lore, and most importantly, the story. Each and every story is truly an experience I could never forget, and one day too, I hope to be able to give people the same experience I have every time I boot one up.
